"Just What I Was Looking For" 2009-11-03

I'm an Aussie - so barbecues matter - always wondered why someone didn't make a gas fired Webber Kettle - so lo and behold along comes the Fuego Element Grill - and as other reviews proclaim - it looks great - and for me it grills great - yeah - the cover that gives access to the propane tank is a pain - I find if I unlatch only one side the latches on the other side will allow the cover to "hinge" enough to turn on the valve - much easier than removing the whole thing - also ignore the temperature gauge when preheating - you need to get the cast iron grate (cast iron makes a big difference on a grill) to searing temps before grilling - 550 to 600 degrees - about 15 - 20 min depending on ambient temps (an inexpensive grill surface thermometer is a worthy gadget for checking temps) - follow suggestions of wiping grate with cooking oil and even salmon will not stick - what I like most is how well this grill handles indirect cooking using just the outer burner - our guests tell us we do the best rack of lamb they ever tasted (of course that would be Australian Lamb!) - so far it has been big enough for a dozen guests or so - btw - I carefully tuned gap on the electronic ignition system which made lighting faster - all in all I like this grill a lot - my Webber kettle is now parked in the garage.

 "gorgeous but useless" 2009-10-22

after careful research, we had been hoping to order this grill at a retail store but that did not happen so we were happy ordering from amazon. it came within a few days & we promptly set it up without much difficulty on our very small deck. the design is genius, perfect for our limited outdoor space. the major problem was that we could not get it to light. there was a full tank of gas, we called then emailed element but never got it to work. it sat outside, uncovered, for about a week & proceeded to rust around the perimeter of the cover after a rain storm! to say that we were disappointed is an understatement. a major design flaw is the gas tank cover has to be pulled off whenever the tank has to be turned on - they should have hinges & an ergonomic handle to open the cover for easy access to the gas source.

we carefully repackaged the grill - always save the box! - & thankfully received a full refund for this disappointing product. now it's back to our tired old weber until we find something small & fabulous that actually works!!

 "Almost Perfect..." 2009-10-21

I have had this grill for about a month now and I've probably cooked on it 20 times or so.

Here are my Initial Thoughts:

The Good:

-It's much better looking than just about any grill on the market.

-Gets up to temperature fast. The first time I used it, I had it up to 500-deg in no time flat.

-Compact design allows it to sit on my back patio. This has been especially useful over the past week since the rain has started.

-The cast iron grill leaves the meat with grill lines just like on Food Network

-Dual burner design allows me to sear the meat and then turn the middle burner off to allow the food to slow cook.

-The food cooks evenly and quickly.

-Grill design allows me to easily bring the grill inside for cleaning after using thick sauces.

The Bad:

-Propane access hatch doesn't have hinges so if you shut off the main propane valve after every use, it can be a bit frustrating. Once you figure out the trick to lining the connectors up, it is no problem.

-The Wood table that swings out is a little small, but it is big enough for a normal size plate. I mostly use it to hold beer, sauces or rubs that I use.

Overall, this is a great grill. The cooking power it has rivals that of the big grills while remaining in a compact design. It makes me wish I could afford the other, bigger grills by Fuego. I can't wait to try out the pizza stone and griddle.

 "One awesome grill!!" 2009-10-20

I own an Element 03 grill in red. This grill cooks like a rocket- with the powerful burner, the grill heated up to 600F degrees in less than 8 minutes.

Once the grill is heated up (I recommend heating up the grill in medium instead of blasting in high so the cast iron grate gets a change to get nice and hot evenly), the hot Cast Iron grate leaves beautiful sear marks on steaks, turn it down low and indirect to bake the steak to perfection!

This grill comes with an innovative dual ring burner so you can cook with both ring on, direct flame cooking. Or just turn on the outer ring and leave the inner ring off, so you can cook with indirect baking or roasting. Works really well on food with grease dripping, like chicken thigh etc.

Pizza stone is awesome. Heat up the stone on high heat with cover off, turn the heat down with indirect- cooks a pizza every 7-10 minutes depends on the thickness on crust. A big hit for kid's pizza parties. I would assume you can bake all kinds of stuff with the Pizza stone, but I am not much of a baker.

Waiting to receive the cast iron griddle. We update as soon as I cook on it.

"Poor functional design. Vaporware, no support..." 2009-10-05
By Kram Semaj (Boston, MA)
While this is a good looking grill there is a bulky and awkward cover for the tank- it is not a hinged door, but it should be. And while I pre-ordered the grill I cannot comment on it's ability to cook as I am prohibited from using LP tanks in my condo, and they have yet to ship the natural gas conversion kit they assured me would ship with the unit- 3 months and counting. The manufacturer has outsourced sales to a company that is slow to respond and has no knowledge of the product. AVOID this grill...
